Pense em fazer as suas refeições antes de sair de casa – Evitando assim alimentar-se de alimentos que não te façam bem servidos em outros locais;

Alimente-se apenas quando estiver com fome – Evite comer quando não tem apetite, pois sua digestão ainda não está pronta para o que está por vir. Aguarde até que sinais de fome apareçam;

Mastigue bem os alimentos – Não subestime a importância de mastigar adequadamente. Isso não só ajuda o sistema digestivo a processar a comida, como também faz com que você se sinta saciado muito mais cedo;

Evite comer em excesso! Seu sistema digestivo terá dificuldade se você o encher ao máximo. É como um liquidificador tentando misturar conteúdo demais — ele sofre para funcionar quando está cheio até a boca.Como regra, pense: 60% alimento, 10% água e 30% vazio. Seu corpo vai agradecer, e você também vai dormir muito melhor;

Evite bebidas muito frias ou com gelo, pois elas prejudicam sua capacidade de digerir. Líquidos gelados são especialmente prejudiciais antes das refeições pois apagam o fogo digestivo. Prefira bebidas mornas, água em temperatura natural ou chás de ervas;

Faça uma leve caminhada após as refeições para ajudar a digestão;

É aceitável dizer não a um convite que não te cai bem – Fica mais leve dizer um não bem intencionado do que vários sim querendo dizer não;

Fazer pausas – Tente reservar um tempo para ficar sozinho;

Respirar – Lembre-se de respirar longa e calmamente sempre que se sentir sobrecarregado. Você vai se surpreender com o quanto isso é benéfico;

Meditar – Esta é uma das ferramentas mais poderosas para manter você centrado;

Awakening with the Sun: An Ayurvedic Morning Ritual for Clarity and Balance

In Ayurveda, the morning is sacred — a time when the veil between the inner and outer worlds is thin, and clarity flows like golden light. By aligning our daily rhythm with nature, we awaken with energy, focus, and serenity. This guide to Ayurvedic morning rituals offers gentle ways to purify, ground, and awaken your body-mind connection — one nurturing practice at a time.

The Sacred Invitation of Dawn

Each sunrise offers more than light — it offers renewal. The ancient Ayurvedic sages taught that how we greet the morning sets the vibration for the entire day. The early hours, soft and luminous, carry the energy of Sattva — purity, balance, and harmony.
When we rise with this energy, we align with nature’s flow and awaken inner joy and clarity. The first few moments after opening your eyes in the morning are utterly special – avoid reaching out for your phone. Wait at least 20 minutes before scrolling.

Rise Before the Sun — The Hour of Stillness

Between 2 am and 6 am, the light, ethereal energy of Vata dosha fills the atmosphere.
This sacred window, known as Brahma Muhurta or Amrit Vela — “the hour of nectar” — is ideal for meditation, reflection, and gentle creativity. Though there is no need to rise at 2am, getting up not much longer than 6am will energise you.

Mindful Morning Practices:

Sit in silence, meditate or chant a mantra such as the Gayatri Mantra.

Journal your dreams or set intentions for the day.

Offer gratitude for your body, your breath, and the new dawn.

Even if you wake closer to sunrise, begin gently — without screens or rush. Let your first moments be still and sacred.

Cleansing Rituals for Wellbeing

The body, like nature, seeks purification each morning. Ayurveda offers timeless dinacharya practices to clear the senses and awaken radiance.

Ayurvedic Cleansing Rituals:

1. Tongue Scraping:
Remove ama (toxins) accumulated overnight and stimulate digestion. Use a copper tongue scrapper and gently scrape the tongue about 5 times, back to front. Do this before eating or drinking anything.

2. Oil Pulling (Gandusha):
Swish a spoonful of coconut or sesame oil for a few minutes to refresh the mouth and balance oral bacteria.

3. Nasya (Nasal Oiling):
Apply a drop of sesame or medicated nasya oil into each nostril to nourish and protect.

4. Abhyanga (Self-Massage):
Warm oil gently over the skin from head to toe. In Sanskrit, sneha means both “oil” and “love,” reminding us that this ritual is self-love in motion.

Abhyanga grounds Vata, soothes the nervous system, and enhances circulation — an ideal start to any day of mindful living but it can be done at any time of the day.

Movement, Breath & Morning Light

As the sun rises, Kapha dosha (earth and water) governs the hours between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Kapha energy is stable and nurturing, yet when excessive, it can bring heaviness or stagnation.

Balance Kapha with Movement:

Practice yoga asana or gentle stretching.

Walk outdoors in fresh air.

Breathe deeply with pranayama.

Soak in morning sunlight to reset your body’s rhythm.

Do some lymphatic exercises – demo on my youtube channel

Movement transforms stillness into strength, awakening both body and mind.

Nourishment with Intention

After cleansing, sip warm water or herbal tea — a blend of cumin, coriander, and fennel (CCF tea) gently awakens digestion (agni). We prefer warm water as it helps with detoxification and clear stagnation better than cold water.

A nourishing Ayurvedic breakfast might include:

Stewed apples with cinnamon and ghee

Spiced porridge with cardamom

Warm grains or cooked fruit

Eat slowly, in gratitude and awareness. When food is eaten mindfully, it becomes healing — nourishment for body, mind, and spirit.

Avoid eating yoghurt in the morning. It is mucus producing. And avoid mixing yoghurt and fruits. Read more on my blog “How to eat fruits according to Ayurveda”.

Begin with Sankalpa — A Morning Intention

A sankalpa is a sacred resolve — a statement of the heart. Before stepping into your day, pause and whisper your intention:

“May my actions today arise from clarity, love, and peace.”

When intention guides your day, every action becomes part of your spiritual practice — from sipping tea to answering emails.

Ayurvedic morning rituals are not rigid rules — they’re gentle reminders to come home to yourself.
Each act of care — brushing your teeth, breathing deeply, or oiling your skin — invites harmony between your body, senses, and soul.

As you awaken with the sun, may your mornings unfold with Sattva — clarity, balance, and radiant peace.

One consistent step at a time.

Love and gratitude, Vivian x

Understanding the Menstrual cycle through the Doshas empowers us to flow with more ease as we can make corrections on our daily routine and diet allowing the body to do what it does best – maintain balance and inner peace.

According to Ayurveda, we use the notion of the doshas and its energy to understand the 3 phases of the menstrual cycle:
· Day 1 – 5 (from the first day of bleeding) – the vata phase
· Day 4 – 14 (from the end of bleeding until ovulation) – the kapha phase
· Day 14 – 18 (from ovulation until your period starts) – the pitta phase

Vata – (day 1 – 5)

Vata (air + ether elements) is the force that regulates all downward movements in the body: elimination, menstruation, circulation. If vata is out of balance, it will manifest as PMS, headaches, digestive upset, constipation, pain on intercourse, fatigue, anxiety and insomnia indicating the need for some vata balancing practices.
Pacifying Vata
Time to have a regular routine and invite calmness and peace. Turn inwards to recharge. Try to avoid anxiety-inducing stimulants, such as alcohol or caffeine. Avoid intense exercise and intercourse.

Kapha – (day 4 – 14)

Kapha (water + earth elements) energy is the building blocks of the endometrium (the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the uterus). Oestrogen is the hormone that builds and increases this tissue – restoring strength to the body and preparing it for conception.
If your kapha is out of balance it will manifest as symptoms such as fluid retention, breast tenderness, weight gain, tiredness, back ache and general heaviness, as well as low mood.
Balancing Kapha
To clear stagnation and lethargy invite some activity to your daily routine. Avoid sleeping beyond 7am, get out in nature for a power walks, enjoy spiced and lighter meals, use herbs such as ginger, turmeric, black pepper, mustard seeds.

Pitta (day 14 – 18)

Pitta (fire and water elements) becomes most active during the ovulation and luteal phases of the menstrual cycle. This phase involves transformation, as the body prepares for possible conception with a surge in progesterone. Libido tends to rise around ovulation, but as the luteal phase continues, excess Pitta can build up—especially in the blood and liver—creating excess heat and hunger. This may lead to symptoms like skin breakouts, headaches, loose stools, mood swings, and irritability. Pitta-dominant individuals may particularly feel this intensity. Premenstrual symptoms such as bloating, food cravings, and breast tenderness are also common during this time.
Balancing Pitta
This phase of your cycle is a key time to support your liver, as it works to process elevated hormone levels. You can aid this natural detoxification by eating more cruciferous and dark green vegetable. Stay physically active throughout the day but avoid intense and competitive exercise. While you may feel driven to do more, calming practices such as gentle yoga can help manage intense emotions and keep excess heat at bay. Reduce intake of spicy and fried foods. Up your intake of cooling foods such as coconut, courgette, coriander, almonds. Moon bathing is very cooling for the body and the nervous system.

Kitchari is a one pot meal considered the staple dish in Ayurveda. It is tasty, nourishing and very easy to make.

It is also a versatile dish that can be eaten on its own or with seasonal vegetables. It can also be turned into a more soupy dish if you add more water. It contains all 6 tastes satisfying your taste buds and your hunger.

Kitchari is considered a Tridoshic meal – meaning that it balances all 3 doshas and can be adapted for all seasons with the variation of seasonal vegetables and warming or cooling spices.

You can play with this dish by pairing with chutneys, vegetables and even swapping rice for quinoa if you prefer a lighter dish.

Because it is an easy to digest dish, you may try to have it at least once a week to give a little break to your digestive system.

It is also the must-have in any Ayurvedic seasonal cleanse.

Please note that mung beans must be soaked overnight to improve digestability and reduce bloating.

RECIPE

Ingredients:

1 tablespoons ghee or olive oil

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds

1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

1/2 teaspoon ground fenugreek

1/3 cup mung beans (soaked overnight)

1/3 cup bastmati rice (washed and rinsed)

3-5 cups water (depending on your desired consistency)

1/2 teaspoon mineral salt

1 bay leaf

Vegetables:

2 cups of seasonal vegetables cut into small pieces. Depending on your choice of vegetables, add to the pot at the beginning or end of your cooking.

To serve

2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves

1 tablespoon lime juice

Method:

In a medium saucepan, heat the ghee on low heat and add the spices and bay leaf, stirring frequently for about 2 minutes or until the aroma comes up. Add the mung beans, rice, water and salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover and allow to simmer for 25-30 minutes.

Add your vegetables during the cooking as per the guidance below:

If using winter vegetables such as: carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato (add at the beginning of the cooking together with the rice and mung)

If using spring summer vegetables: courgette, asparagus, bitter greens, chicory (add towards the last 10 minutes of the cooking without needing to stir)

Modification: use rice for Vata and Pitta and quinoa for Kapha

According to Ayurveda (a complete medical system dating back over 5,000 years) there are some guidelines around how, what and when to eat that should be followed in order to maintain a healthy body and mind.

Below are some simple tips to help you navigate the Holiday Season to ensure that you feel well and start the new year feeling the best that you can.

Looking after your body

1. Eat only when hungry – Avoid eating when you do not have an appetite as your digestion is not yet ready for what it is to come. Wait until hunger signs appear;

2. Chew your food for longer – do not underestimate the importance of chewing your food properly. It not only helps your digestive system to process the food but, you will feel satiated a lot sooner;

3. Avoid overeating! Your digestive system will struggle if you fill it to the max. Just like a blender struggles to mix its content when you fill it to the top.

As a rule, think: 1/3 of food, 1/3 of liquid and 1/3 empty. Your body will appreciate it and you will sleep a lot better, too;

4. Avoid very cold/icy drinks as it impairs your ability to digest. Icy cold liquid is particularly detrimental just before meals. Prefer warm drinks such as herbal teas;

As we well know, your mind is the control centre of how your body and emotions behave. Looking after your mind can be extra challenging during the Festive Season as we are often thrown out of balance with so much going on: people, food, drinking, late nights and so on.

1. Take a pause – Try to make some time to be on your own. Perhaps a quick Yoga routine or a walk around the block;

2. Breathe – Remember to breathe long and calm breaths every time you feel overwhelmed. You will be surprised at how beneficial this is;

3. Meditate – This is one of the most powerful tools to ground you;

Virechana, remove toxinas do intestino

* Dieta
* Estilo de vida
* Sono
* Auto-observação e conexão consigo mesmo

Karma – means action

Panchakarma is an Aurvedic treatment that consists of five Ayurvedic therapeutic actions to detoxify the body, mind and emotions. It is an Ayurvedic method of removing toxins from the body through five purification procedures to cleanse and detox the body for mental and physical wellbeing.

What are the 5 actions / karmas?

The five cleansing and healing therapies used in a panchakarma treatments are:

Basti which used herbal enemas to purge the large intestines and reignite the digestive fire helping the colon work properly

Nasya, which is the method used to clean the nasal passage that strengthens general immunity and helps keep the nasal passage and airways clear

Vamana, removes toxins in the stomach through therapeutic vomiting

Virechana, removes toxins from the small intestines

Raktamokshana, purifies the blood with carefully controlled letting of small quantities of blood

Who can receive a panchakarma?

A panchakarma treatment is uniquely designed for the specific needs of the patient (specific constitution and specific disorder) after careful physical observation.

It is always done individually and requires close observation and supervision.

How often do I need a panchakarma treatment?

Ayurveda recommends that a healthy person have at least one panchakarma treatment per year to maintain balance but as it is a specialised procedure, it varies depending on the needs of the patient.

How long does a panchakarma treatment last?

The Ayurvedic recommendation is at least 3 weeks in the care of the Ayurvedic facility.

What are the benefits of a panchakarma?

When done properly a panchakarma helps restore balance of all 3 doshas, strengthen the immune system and digestion, as well as rejuvenation of body and mind.

Why do I need a panchakarma?

For physical and mental wellbeing.

Can panchakarma be done at home?

It should not be done at home as it is an in-depth treatment that involves a long period (generally 3 weeks) in a residential setting where the patient will stay in a panchakarma facility under the personalised care of a doctor or Ayurvedic therapist trained in panchakarma. Not all Ayurvedic practitioners or Ayurvedic clinics can perform panchakarma as it requires special training.

Pre and post panchakarma

As important as the time spent receiving the panchakarma treatment, its preparation and post panchakarma care are equally important. It is essential to make adjustments to the 4 pillars of Ayurveda before embarking on it.

Diet

Lifestyle

Sleep

Self-observation and connection with the self

Herbal oil massage and steams baths before the commencement of the panchakarma will increase circulation and help the body eliminate toxic residue while purifying the blood. The steam bath helps the herbal oil from your massage go deeper into the layers of your skin for deep rooted benefits.

A carefully selected vegetarian diet is essential during a panchakarma treatment.

Conclusion

A panchakarma is a wonderful way to maintain physical and mental balance as it clears the body from deep rooted toxins thus facilitating to revert disease processes. It is an excellent way to start a new beginning based on conscious eating and mindful living.

From the point of view of Ayurveda, it is very important to understand that fruit consumption must observe some rules. This is mainly due to the fact that fruits are easily digestible foods and when eaten together with other foods, fruits sit in our digestive system awaiting the digestion of more complex foods. While the fruits sit in the stomach, they ferment and cause indigestion and discomforts such as flatulence, bloating, acidity and reflux.

This situation worsens when we constantly eat fruit inappropriately, as these toxins build up in the digestive system.

When we have good digestion and daily bowel movements, most of these toxins can be expelled, however, waste that is not expelled in sufficient time causes what we call AMA (unmetabolized toxins) in Ayurveda. Over time, this accumulation ends up causing deeper symptoms such as lethargy, body aches and illnesses.

As a rule, fruits should be consumed alone, that is, they should not be eaten together with other foods. The habit of eating fruit after lunch or with milky coffee in the morning is highly harmful to health, especially for people who naturally have slower digestion. The body needs different digestive enzymes to digest different classes of food, so when we consume a variety of foods and fruits in the same meal, the entire digestive process ends up suffering as a result of these complex chemical processes.

The ideal is to wait at least half an hour before or after eating fruit to eat other foods.

Cooked and dried fruits are an exception and can be mixed with other foods.

Another recommendation from Ayurveda is regarding the incompatibility between sweet and acidic fruits. Our beloved fruit salad is not recommended in Ayurveda.

To make it easier to understand, always remember to consume sweet fruits only with sweet fruits and acidic fruits only with acidic ones.

Citrus fruits: pineapple, acerola, plum, blackberry, raspberry, currant, kiwi, oranges, lime, lemon, strawberry, peach, tamarind, tangerine and grapes.

Non-acidic fruits: the sweetest (such as avocado, mango, pear, banana, melon, apple and coconut) and oilseeds (such as apricots, prunes and figs).

Now let’s talk about the melon! Ah, melon is a different case. It must be consumed alone, always! Never mix melon with other foods or fruits to avoid indigestion. Melon is a very easy to digest fruit and when consumed together with other fruits or foods, it ends up fermenting very quickly causing indigestion.

Another thing that I always recommend to my clients: between drinking fresh fruit juice and eating fruit, ALWAYS prefer to eat the fruit. It is much healthier to eat fruit with its fiber to facilitate digestion. Fruit eaten whole follows a different digestive path than its juice.

And finally, it is important to know that Ayurvedic recommendations are that fruits should be ingested between 9am and 4pm as during the day our digestion will always be more efficient than at night. Avoid eating fruit at night, especially if you have slow digestion, suffer from indigestion, asthma, skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. And if you suffer from leaky bowels or irritable bowel syndrome, pay extra attention and do not consuming fruits at night.

A conscious consumption of fruits is essential for anyone who wants to maintain health and well-being.

Specially pre-diabetics and diabetics people who should always be careful with fruits and avoid fruit juices at all cost!

Do a little test of self-observation: stop eating fruits at night and notice how your mood and digestion will be better the next day. Don’t forget to come back here to tell me!

If you want to delve deeper into the subject and find out more, book a Discovery Call to discover how the wisdom of Ayurvedic medicine can help you regain your health and vitality!

A Ghee é considerada laticínio?
